A big flock of birds lived on a tree in a forest. There were young birds and old birds. The oldest bird was liked by all and every one called him fondly “grampa”. Grampa was believed to be at least a hundred years old. The birds went out every morning in search of food and returned back to the tree in the evening.

One day as the birds were getting ready to fly in search of food they saw lot of bird food lying on the grass near by. “We don’t have to search very far. Look at all the food lying there. We can all get bird food,” exclaimed the birds. “Wait,” said Grampa bird, “bird food does not grow on trees here and it does not rain bird food, where did so much bird food come from? I think a bad guy must have laid a trap to catch birds.” “Don’t listen to Grampa,” said other birds, “he is old and does not want us to have good food.”

All the birds swooped down to eat the bird food. Grampa bird did not join them. The birds had their fill and were carrying some food in their beaks ready to fly back to the tree, but they could not. A bad guy had laid a net under the bird food and now all the birds’ feet were caught in the net. They struggled to get out of the net. The more they struggled the worse they were entangled. Just then they saw the bad guy. He was coming towards them. He saw all the birds he had caught and was very pleased with him self.

“Help!!!”, cried the birds. “You were right Grampa, it was a trap. What are we going to do now? Help us.” Grampa was very sad to see them all trapped.

He thought for a while and then said, “Stop struggling. Unity is your strength. On count to three, all of you flap your wings and fly up. Alone, you are small and cannot do much, but together you can lift the net and fly with it. 3, 2, 1….. come on fly.” The bad guy was very near the net. The birds flapped their wings and flew up along with the net over the bad guy’s head. He could not believe his eyes.

Grampa bird led all the birds to his friend, the mouse. When they reached mouse’s house, the birds got down to the ground. The mouse quickly cut through the net and the birds were free again.

The crow was flying to meet his grandmother who lived far away. He flew over the forests and the grasslands. Next he had to fly over the desert.

He started early in the morning when it was cooler. In the deserts the nights are cold and the days are very hot. So the crow started very early in the morning when it was cooler, but as the day progressed, it got very hot. The crow was thirsty. There was no sign of water anywhere.

At last, the crow saw a broken terracotta pot. There was some water at the bottom of the pot. The crow could not reach the water with his beak.

He tried to tilt the pot, but he could not. The pot was heavy and the crow was a small bird.

He tried to break the pot with his beak, but he could not. The pot was strong and it hurt his beak.

He got a stone in his beak and tried to break the pot with the stone. But the stone slipped and fell into the pot.

“I have a good idea. I can bring this water up” thought the crow.

The crow collected some more stones and put them into the pot.

The water in the pot rose a little. He collected some more stones and put them in the pot.

Soon the water was high enough that the crow was able to drink it and quench his thirst.

Once upon a time in a big thick jungle, there lived a teeny tiny mouse. There also lived a big and mighty lion. The mouse lived in a small hole under a big leafy tree. A lot of birds, squirrels and other animals lived on and near the tree. The mouse and his friends always played under the tree. They played tag, hide and seek and sometimes just sat under the tree for rest.

One sunny afternoon, the lion was sleeping under the tree. It was very hot and the lion was tired. The mouse and his friends were playing hide and go seek. The squirrel was going to seek. Everybody was hiding. The mouse could not find any place to hide. Suddenly he saw the sleeping lion. The mouse saw that the lion had a thick mane. He decided to hide inside all that hair.

As the mouse was hiding inside the lion’s hair, the lion woke up. He was very angry that his sleep was disturbed. He caught the mouse in his paws. The mouse was very afraid. He cried, “Oh Great Lion! Please leave me. I promise not to disturb you again. You never know. I might help you someday.” The lion laughed loudly. He said, “You, a tiny mouse, help me the mighty lion!!!” The mouse said that size does not matter. The lion was surprised and left the mouse.

One day the lion got caught in a hunter’s net. He roared for help. The mouse came out of his house and saw him. He quickly cut the net with his sharp teeth. The lion understood then, that size really did not matter.  From that day on… the mouse found another friend… the lion!!

The king had a beautiful garden. Green grassy lawns lined with beautiful flowering plants and a water fountain. Beyond the lawns were lots of trees. There were banana plants and apple trees. A lot of monkeys lived on the trees. At the center of all the trees was a lake with clear water that reflected the sky. The king, the queen and the little princes often went for a walk in the garden.

One sunny afternoon the little princess wanted to go for a swim in the lake. She gave the pretty pearl necklace she was wearing to her Nanny. A girl monkey was watching from the trees. She liked the pearl necklace very much and wanted it for herself.

She saw the Nanny sit under the shade of tree, holding the necklace in her hand. Soon the Nanny was fast asleep and the necklace slipped out of her hand. The girl monkey ran down the tree, snatched the necklace and ran up the tree to her hiding spot where she hid the pearl necklace.

Soon the Nanny woke up and realized the necklace was missing. She searched all around but could not find it. Not knowing what to do and what to say to the king, the Nanny told the king a lie. “A man came in and grabbed the necklace out of my hand and ran out the garden”, she said. The King ordered his security chief to catch the thief.

The chief guarded the garden and was sure no man could come in and grab the necklace. He went to the tree where the Nanny was taking a nap. He looked to his left, he looked to his right. He looked in the front, he looked in the back. He looked down, he looked up. He saw monkeys up in the tree.

“I think the one of the monkeys took the necklace. I have a good idea”, thought the chief. He got lots of colorful bead necklaces and spread them under the tree. All the monkeys got down to take the necklaces. The girl monkey did not leave her spot to get a necklace.

Soon all the monkeys were wearing a necklace and began chattering. “Look, I got a red necklace.” “Mine is a blue one”. “My necklace shines in the sun.” “Where is your necklace?” they asked the girl monkey. The girl monkey said nothing. “You don’t have a necklace. I have a pretty one.” They began teasing her.

The girl monkey took the pearl necklace out of her hiding spot and wore it. “You have beads necklace, I got a pearl necklace,” teased the girl monkey.

The chief was watching from the ground. He threw a net over the girl monkey and took the pearl necklace from her. He then gave her a rainbow colored shining necklace and let her go.

The King was very happy to get back the pearl necklace. “Thank you Chief, you got back the pearl necklace. The princess will be very happy to get back her favorite necklace.”

Once upon a time there was a forest called Aranya. In the forest there lived Mr. Eagle. He had no friends and lived alone.

One day he met Miss Eagle. “I have no friends and I live all by myself. Will you marry me?” asked Mr. Eagle.

I will marry you if you can make at least two friends” replied Miss Eagle.

Mr. Eagle set out to make some friends. First he saw a turtle lying on the bank of the river. ”Will you be my friend?” asked Mr. Eagle. “Oh sure, I will be your friend. I live here by the river. We can play in the water and have fun.” Mr. Eagle was happy. He had one friend.

A lion came by to drink water from the river. “Will you be my friend lion?” asked Mr. Eagle to the lion. “Oh sure, I will be your friend. I live in a cave up there” said the lion pointing to the cliffs. Mr. Eagle was very happy. He now had two friends.

He flew down to Miss Eagle and said “I have two friends, the turtle and the lion. Will you marry me?” Miss eagle smiled and said “Yes, I will marry you.”

So, Mr. Eagle and Miss Eagle got married. They soon had two eaglets or baby eagles.

One evening bad guy Shikari and his friend came by and sat under the tree on which the Eagle family lived. They wanted to catch some animals to sell. They had not caught any animals and were very hungry. The eaglets were hungry too since it was their dinner time. The babies chirped “We are hungry. Is it dinner time yet?” “Shhh, don’t make noise, the hunters will hear you” said Mommy Eagle. The hunters heard their chirping and one of them said, “We are in luck. Let’s get these eaglets. You start the fire so the smoke will blind them while I climb on the tree to get them.”

As Shikari started to climb the tree, Mommy Eagle pecked at the man. He could not climb the tree. But the fire was making a lot of smoke and hurt the eaglet's eyes. Mr. Eagle went down to the river collected some water and swooshed over the fire to put it out. But the men, tried to climb and start the fire again and again and again. Mommy eagle and Mr. Eagle soon got tired. “Call Mr. Turtle and Mr. Lion for help,” said Mommy Eagle to Mr. Eagle.

Mr. Eagle went to the river and told Mr. Turtle about Shikari the bad guy. He asked Mr. Turtle to help while he went on to call Mr. Lion. Mr. Turtle went to the tree. “Hey Shikari, come and get me.” The hunters ran after the turtle. The turtle ran to the river and went quickly into the water.

Shikari  and his friend could not see where Mr. Turtle had gone. They turned around to go back to the tree to get the eagles. Mr. Turtle came out of the water again and shouted “Come and get me “. Shikari and his friend were getting very tired, "the turtle is playing a trick on us. Let us go back to the tree." Just then Mr. Lion came bounding down the cliffs and gave a loud roar “Roarrrrrrrrrr”. The frightened men ran for their lives leaving the Eagles family, Mr. Lion and Mr. Turtle behind.
