Ready To Eat Indian Food

Naan Pizza

Naan PizzaTry this Indian take on the traditional Italian dish. The pizza base is substituted with a Naan, the marinara sauce is substituted with a mouthwatering spicy tomato chutney. The cheese is sparse and is very similar to the Amul cheese. For those unfamiliar with Amul Cheese, it is probably world’s only vegetarian cheese. There are various types available from the regular cheese pizza to very unique vegetarian options like the eggplant pizza or the jalepeno pizza or the exotic Cilantro Pesto. Kids love the pizza which is not very spicy and has the distinct Indian spices flavor.

Verdict: Highly recommend to buy

Paneer Paratha

Paneer ParathaLove this spicy paneer paratha. The packet comes with 4 parathas and is available in the  frozen section. The parathas can be warmed on pan or the traditional tava or can be microwaved. I like them warmed on the tava to give that fresh crispy texture. There is enough oil and will not need additional oil while warming. Enjoy it the traditional way with plain yogurt (dahi) or with sour cream. This paratha was introduced to me by one of our fans. Fresh Gourmet Crispy Onions

Fresh Gourmet crispy onionsCrunchy and super delicious, these crispy onions can be enjoyed in many different ways. Typically used as casserole topping and in stuffings, they are equally good in Indian dishes. Top your chat items like bhel, sev puri, ragda patties, samosa chat etc., for added flavor and texture. Sprinkle on top of pulav and biryani before serving.

Fresh Gourmet also has other interesting products like Wonton strips and Tortilla strips that can be bought online @ amazon.com.

Deep Rasa malai

Deep rasa malaiA definite vote for a buy. This rasamalai is one of the best ready to eat rasamalai. A 1 kg packet of rasamalai comes with 32 medium sized malai pieces with plenty of rasa or the creamy milk. The malai is smooth in texture and almost melts in the mouth. The creamy milk tastes like basundi. A few crushed nuts are sprinkled over the top and if you like more nuts like almonds and pistachio on your rasamali, you will have to add it. The rasamalai also has kewada essence that gives a nice aroma. I found the rasamali to be on the sweeter side, but those who prefer their desserts very sweet will like it.
Overall verdict is an overwhelming BUY.

Another options for good rasa malai is the Nanak Rasamalai

Sukhis Lentil Curry

Indian kitchen has a lot of spices that are combined to create the exotic flavorful dishes. Sukhi’s spice mix makes it easier to get the right mix for a particular dish. Add a few more ingredients to the spice mix, make it your own and surprise yourself.

I tried the Dal (lentil soup) spice mix and instead of using the traditional Indian black lentils, I used the French green lentils available at any whole foods store. Follow the instructions on the package to make the dal.

Sukhis lentil spice mixIngredients:
1 packet of Sukhi’s Dal Spice Mix
1 cup lentils (yellow, green or red)
4 cups of water
2 tbsp. cooking oil
¼ tbsp. turmeric
Salt to taste

Method:
In 2 quart pot, add rinsed lentils, salt, turmeric and water. Boil on medium high heat until lentils are soft and mushy. Add more water if necessary to fully cook the lentils. Heat oil in a separate pan over medium high heat. Add Dal Spice Mix and saute until spices begin to froth. Remove from flame. Add spice mixture to cooked lentils. Stir in well and serve! Makes 4 servings.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN!

Ingredients:
Ground Cumin, Garam Masala, Turmeric, Red Chili Powder, Asafoetida

Method:
1) Add some (1-2 tbsp) dry coconut powder to get a unique coconut flavor to the curry.  The lentils are traditionally eaten with rice, Naan or roti (tortilla).

2) Take 1 serving of the cooked lentil curry. Add 1 can of your favorite tomato soup. Add one cup cooked penne pasta. A wholesome meal is ready to be served for two.
