Oatmeal Pohe

Oatmeal pohe are a healthful twist on the traditional Maharashtrian pohe that are made with flattened rice. This dish is very easy to prepare and you can serve it for breakfast, afternoon snack or even for lunch/dinner. Excellent option for calorie counters!



- 2 cups oatmeal flakes

- 1 cup finely chopped onion

- ½ cup grated coconut (wet coconut is better)

- ¼ cup finely chopped cilantro

- 2 tsp lemon juice

- Salt to taste

- 1 tbsp vegetable oil

- ¼ tsp haldi

- ½ tsp cumin/jeera

- ½ tsp mustard seeds

- Pinch of hing/asafetida

- 1 green chilli finely chopped


How to Make:

Mix well the oatmeal flakes, onion, coconut, cilantro, lemon juice, green chilli and salt. Let the mix sit in a covered container for half an hour or until the oatmeal flakes are softened. Heat the oil and add mustard, cumin, hing and haldi. Pour the oil over the oatmeal flakes and mix well. Garnish with additional cilantro and for a spicier version, add one more chilli.
