An Introduction to Indian Food Recipes
Indian food is typically spicy and is influenced by the region of India. Typically Indian food at the Indian restaurants is classified as North Indian Cuisine and South Indian Cuisine.
North Indian Cuisine: This food typically has Naan and other breads, curry is not very spicy hot and has the famous tandoor (Indian for oven) dishes. This food also has a lot of paneer dishes. Punjabi and Lakhnawi dishes make up most of this cuisine.
South Indian Cuisine: This food typically has rice dishes including the popular biryani, Idalli and dosa. The curries are spicier and many dishes are made from coconut. Food from the states of Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala make this cuisine.
Other regional food include Gujrati food (has a sweeter taste), Bengali food (the desserts are very popular), Maharashtrian (has their own special blend of spices and uses sesame seeds and peanuts) , Goan or Konkani(specializes in sea food) and chaat.
Indian food has influence of food from all over the world. There is a new type of cuisines coming up called the cosmopolitan cooking. This type of Indian food takes the basic recipe from other cuisines and modifies it to make it Indian. It is not a traditional Indian recipe.
