The Global Indian Chronicles

Global IndianSo, who is a ‘Global Indian’? Rather, a more fundamental question – what does being an ‘Indian’ really mean?

If you stick to the most technical definition of the term, an ‘Indian’ would be ‘Someone who is a citizen of the country of India’. In practice though, an ‘Indian’ signifies something that’s much grander, broader, deeper, profound, time-less and beyond man made boundaries. One way to look at it is that it’s about identifying oneself with and being an integral part of a certain ‘Indian’ culture. But the funny thing is that there really is no such thing as a single ‘Indian’ culture, religion, ethnicity, language or even a set of
traditions and customs. It’s as diverse and abundant as the nature itself. Another perspective is that no matter where you live in the world, you or your ancestors are somehow associated with the Indian sub-continent, and follow certain ‘Indian’ practices.

Any which way you look at it, it’s pretty much impossible to precisely nail down this concept. But one thing we know for sure is that whether within India or outside, the quintessential ‘Indian’ is proudly carrying forward the torch of that certain culture.

This series salutes the amazing spirit and tireless efforts of the many people, communities and organizations around the world that are committed to preserving and growing the ‘Indian’ culture.
